Akagi: Yami ni Oritatta Tensai is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Nobuyuki Fukumoto. First published in 1991 in Takeshobo's weekly magazine Kindai Mahjong, it is a spin-off prequel of the author's previous work, Ten. It revolves around Shigeru Akagi, a boy who defeats yakuza members well versed in mahjong at 13. He returns to the game six years later, carrying a mythical status and still impresses his opponents.

Damekko Dōbutsu is a Japanese manga series by Noriko Kuwata serialized in Manga Life since the November 2001 issue. It was later adapted into a comedy anime series on Kids Station, a Japanese broadcast satellite station. It features characters that wear kigurumi costumes. Each character in the anime does not live up to the standards of their species, making them outcasts who must live in the "Useless" Forest. The main character, Uruno, is a wolf who has the personality of a shy rabbit; meanwhile, his friend and foil, Usahara the rabbit, has a wolf-like dominance and aggression. Each of the 26 episodes is 5 minutes long, bringing the total series to 130 minutes.

Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist is a Japanese light novel series written by Kennoji. It was serialized online between 2016 and 2020 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. It was acquired by Linda Publishers, who have originally published two volumes with illustrations by Shōji Nigō between February and June 2017 under their Red Rising Books imprint, before going bankrupt. Hifumi Shobō later reacquired the series, who have published seven volumes with illustrations by Matsuuni since April 2018 under their Brave Novel imprint. A manga adaptation with art by Eri Haruno has been serialized online via Takeshobo's Web Comic Gamma Plus website since December 2018. Both the light novel and manga are licensed in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment. An anime television series adaptation by EMT Squared aired from July to September 2021.

Furiten-kun (フリテンくん) is a yonkoma manga series by Masashi Ueda which has been serialized in several magazine. In the early 1980s, the manga was published simultaneously in Takeshobo's Kindai Mahjong, Kindai Mahjong Original, and Gamble Punch. It was then published in Manga Life magazine from November 1984 to 1994. The series was started again in January 2001 and is currently running in Manga Life. The title of the series was changed to Shin Furiten-kun (新フリテンくん) in March 2002. The manga was adapted into a theatrical film and an OVA in the early 1980s.

Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku is a Japanese satirical mahjong manga series by Hideki Ohwada. It was initially irregularly serialized in the Kindai Mahjong Original manga magazine published by Takeshobo, then switched to bimonthly serialization on Takeshobo's other mahjong manga magazine Kindai Mahjong in April 2009. An anime adaptation was released on February 26, 2010 as an original video anime. The premise of the manga is that international diplomacy is settled on the mahjong table, with real-life politicians depicted as masters of mahjong. The Japanese title is a parody of Junichiro Koizumi's slogan, "Reform with No Sanctuary" .

An anime series was adapted from the manga in 1990 by Sunrise, which aired on TV Asahi. The title Obatarian is a Japanese buzzword from the late 1980s, created as a pun portmanteau of the Japanese word おば and the Japanese title of the 1985 zombie comedy movie The Return of the Living Dead.
