Ardmore distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery, located in the village of Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire. The distillery is owned and operated by Beam Suntory, an American subsidiary of Suntory Holdings of Osaka, Japan. The distillery was built in 1898 by William Teacher's son, Adam, to secure fillings for their blend, Teacher's Highland Cream. Two stills were added in 1955, and four more in 1974, for a total of eight. The distillery had its own maltings until the mid-1970s, and its own cooperage until the late 1980s. Until early 2001 it used coal to fire the stills.

Destilerías y Crianza del Whisky S.A. is a Spanish company formed by businessman Nicomedes García Gómez in 1958. It is currently a subsidiary of Beam Suntory. The first distillery, built in Palazuelos de Eresma in Segovia, began operation in February 1959. In March 1963, it started to produce Whisky DYC, the first Spanish whisky. The initial production of one million liters per year climbed to twenty million per year in the 1980s. The distillery is still capable of producing this much whisky, but recently output has only been a fraction of its capacity.

It is one of the most commonly available straight rye whiskies in the U.S., where it is available at most liquor stores. It is aged for three years and, since early 2020, is non-chill filtered and bottled at 86 proof. A four-year bottled in bond, 100 proof version was released in late 2017. Old Overholt has been called a "foundation stone of American whiskey" because of its long history.
