
Découvertes Gallimard is an editorial collection of illustrated monographic books published by the Éditions Gallimard. The books are concise introductions to particular subjects, intended for a general audience but written by experts.

The Exploration of Africa: From Cairo to the Cape is an illustrated monograph on the European exploration of Africa, published in pocket format by Éditions Gallimard in 1991. Written by the French Africanist and historian Anne Hugon, this work is the 117th volume in the “Découvertes Gallimard” collection, and was adapted into a documentary film in 2003, by the title Le Mystère des sources du Nil.

Angkor: Heart of an Asian Empire is an illustrated monograph on the archaeology and rediscovery of Angkor Wat, published in pocket format by Éditions Gallimard in 1989. Written by the French archaeologist and art historian, Bruno Dagens, this work is the 64th volume in the “Découvertes Gallimard” collection. Découvertes Gallimard is a French encyclopaedic collection of illustrated pocket books published by Éditions Gallimard since 1986. Books of this collection have been selectively translated into English. London-based publisher Thames & Hudson launched its first English-translated titles in 1992, under the title ‘New Horizons’ series. Harry N. Abrams of New York City produces the collection in United States under the title "Abrams Discoveries" series.

Pierre Marchand was a significant figure in French publishing history, who gave French publishing an international dimension. Written by the French historian of science Denis Guedj, this work is the 300th volume in the “Découvertes Gallimard” collection, and was adapted into a documentary film in 2001, with the same title.

Once Upon a Time in Mesopotamia is a 1998 documentary film adapted from the nonfiction book of the same name by French Assyriologist Jean Bottéro and archaeologist Marie-Joseph Stève. Directed by Jean-Claude Lubtchansky, and co-produced by Trans Europe Film, La Sept-Arte, Éditions Gallimard, Louvre Museum and La Cinquième, with voice-over narration by French actors François Marthouret and Corinne Jaber, the documentary is structured like an adventure film, takes viewers into the world of the first discoverers, epigraphists and Assyriologists who revealed Mesopotamian archaeology to the modern world.

The Pyramids of Giza: Facts, Legends and Mysteries is a 2006 illustrated monograph by French Egyptologist Jean-Pierre Corteggiani. The book was published on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of 'Découvertes Gallimard', together with Néron : Le mal-aimé de l'Histoire, L'affaire Qumrân : Les découvertes de la mer Morte and a new edition of À la recherche de l'Égypte oubliée.

The Search for Ancient Egypt is an illustrated monograph on the history of the rediscovery of ancient Egypt and of Egyptology, published in pocket format by Éditions Gallimard, in 1986. Written by the French Egyptologist Jean Vercoutter, this work is the first volume in the “Découvertes Gallimard” collection. It was awarded a literary prize by the Fondation de France in 1987.
