The southern parts of Gedo, west of the Jubba River, used to be part of the old British Trans-Juba region during half of the seventy years of colonial era in Africa from 1890 to 1960. The British and Italians fought twice over this area. The first democratically elected governor of the administrative region was Hussein Farey, who entered office in 2008.
WHaysimo is a newly appointed province in Somaliland. Before its formation in mid 2014, the Haysimo territory was part of the Sanaag and Sool regions. The capital of the region is the historic town of Taleh. The region also consists of Sarmaanyo, Godaalo, Halin, Gaulo, Arroley and Shahda districts.
WHiman and Heeb was an autonomous region in the Federal Republic of Somalia. Formed in 2008, its capital was the central town of Adado (Cadaado). In 2015 Himan and Heeb merged with Galmudug to form a much larger Galmudug which consists of Mudug and Galguduud regions.
