
Jammu is the winter capital of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the headquarters and the largest city in Jammu district of the union territory. Lying on the banks of the river Tawi, the city of Jammu, with an area of 240 km2 (93 sq mi), is surrounded by the Himalayas in the north and the northern-plains in the south. Jammu is the second most populous city of the union territory.

Jammu Division is a revenue and administrative division within Jammu and Kashmir, a union territory of India. It consists of the districts of Jammu, Doda, Kathua, Ramban, Reasi, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur and Samba. Most of the land is hilly or mountainous, including the Pir Panjal Range which separates it from the Kashmir Valley and part of the Great Himalayas in the eastern districts of Doda and Kishtwar. Its principal river is the Chenab. The Chenab Valley is another important region in the Jammu division. It is also known as Duggar Pradesh.

The Government Medical College, Jammu also known as GMC Jammu is a Medical College located in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir. It was established in 1973. The college and hospital are approved and recognized by the Medical Council of India since the year of inception of college.

The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu is a public research university located in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, India. As one of India's premier Indian Institutes of Technology, the university came into existence in 2016 when a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Department of Higher Education, Government of Jammu & Kashmir and Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, was signed. The IIT campus has been constructed in the village of Jagti, in Nagrota Tehsil, in Jammu district.

The Manawar Tawi river is a tributary of the Chenab River, which originates at the Ratan Pir ridge of the Pir Panjal Range and flows through the Rajouri and Jammu districts of Jammu and Kashmir and the Narowal district of Pakistani Punjab, where it joins the Chenab. The towns along its course include Thana Mandi, Rajouri and Naushera. Towards the end of its course, it flows through the plains of the Jammu district west of Akhnur close to the Line of Control dividing the Pakistan-administered and Indian-administered Kashmir regions.

Mansar Lake is situated 37 km (23 mi) from Jammu, Mansar is a lake fringed by forest-covered hills, over a mile in length by half-a-mile in width. Surinsar-Mansar Lakes are designated as Ramsar Convention in November 2005.

Nagrota is a town located in the Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir in India. It is located on National highway 44 between Jammu city and Udhampur. It is situated on the bank of River Tawi. Nagrota along with Kashmiri Pandit Migrant town of Jagti straddle the national highway. Nagrota is the first shrine stoppage for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. The Kol-Kandoli temple is a mandate for completing the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage. Nagrota has an extension of Jammu Industries having Oil Depots and Godowns.It serves as headquarter of the XVI Corps (India) also known as the 'White Knight Corp'.

Talab Tillo is a suburban area of Jammu City in theunion territory of Jammu and Kashmir and is situated in Jammu Province. It derived its name from a Saint named 'Tilloo' and from a "Talab" which was situated here. "Talab" is a Hindi word which means "Pond" in English. Earlier it was used to be called as 'Tillo Talab' but now with the passage of time the name is changed to 'Talab Tillo'. Residents of the area are fluent in Hindi, Kashmiri Dogri and Urdu.
