The game was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Sanrio and features various characters from the Sanrio Company, including ones from the anime series. The game was released in Japan on July 26, 2010 and has been into several revisions during its release. Starting with the revision in 2012, the game is tied to both the Jewelpet and Arcana Heart franchises.

Balloon Kid is a flying platform game developed by Pax Softnica and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy on October 5, 1990 in North America and on January 31, 1991 in Europe. It is the sequel to Balloon Fight. It was never released in Japan for the original Game Boy; however, two years after its original release, a licensed Family Computer port titled Hello Kitty World was reprogrammed and released by Sanrio's subsidiary Character Soft exclusively in Japan on March 27, 1992. A Game Boy Color edition with a few new features titled Balloon Fight GB was released in Japan on July 31, 2000.

Hello Kitty: Big City Dreams is a Hello Kitty game published by Empire Interactive for the Nintendo DS. Hello Kitty: Big City Dreams offers two complementary styles of play: exploration and mini-game. Exploration mode offers the chance to take control of Hello Kitty and explore a 3D city, complete with streets, buildings, shops, neighborhood characters, and public transportation that Hello Kitty can ride. Different locations within the city will trigger a variety of mini-games for Hello Kitty to play. Completing these mini-games will earn friendship points which Hello Kitty can then use to ride the bus or train, purchase new outfits and items, decorate and customize her apartment, and progress in her journey. In order to keep her friends happy, Hello Kitty will have to stay in touch by checking her mail frequently.

According to her backstory, she is a perpetual 3rd-grade student who lives outside of London. Kitty and her twin sister, Mimmy, celebrate their birthday on 1 November 1974. Since the cartoon character's creation, the Hello Kitty media franchise has grown to include clothing, accessories, toys, games, books, manga, anime series, and music albums, along with other various product lines and media productions.
