35 Indian Air Force aircraft squadrons

No. 1 Squadron, the oldest squadron of the Indian Air Force operates as a multirole unit. Part of 40 Wing of the Indian Air Force under Central Air Command, it is based at Maharajpur in Gwalior.

No.2 Squadron is a unit dedicated to CAS in the Indian Air Force. No. 2 Sqn falls under the Eastern Air Command.

No. 5 Squadron (Tuskers) is a fighter squadron and is equipped with Jaguar IS and based at Ambala Air Force Station under the Western Air Command.

No. 45 Squadron Indian Air Force is a Fighter Squadron internally based at Sulur AFS, Tamil Nadu. The squadron operates the indigenous HAL Tejas fighter from 1 July 2016. The squadron was initially based at Bangalore, Karnataka and later shifted to its main base in Sulur from 1 June, 2018.

No. 51 Squadron "Sword Arms" is a fighter squadron of Indian air force, based in Srinagar air force station. The squadron is under the western command of Indian air force.

No. 52 Squadron is an aerobatic squadron of the Indian Air Force. It was established in 1996 and is based at Bidar Air Force Station. The squadron zwas formed in 2006. It is popularly known as the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT). SKAT performs across the country as well as in China, the UK, Germany, Laos and Sri Lanka. The Surya Kirans were among the top three nine-aircraft aerobatics teams in the world, along with the British Red Arrows and the Canadian Snowbirds.

No. 77 Squadron is a unit of the Indian Air Force assigned to Western Air Command. This tactical airlift aircraft will be able to undertake quick deployment of Special Forces in all weather conditions, including airdrops and landings on unprepared or semi-prepared surface even in complete darkness. Capable of undertaking low-level air-to-air refueling to enhance its range, rapid forward basing of personnel and equipment in emergent situations would be one of its multifaceted roles.

No. 81 Squadron is a unit of the Indian Air Force assigned to Western Air Command. The Squadron participates in operations involving air, land and airdrop of troops, equipment, supplies, and support or augment special operations forces, when appropriate.

No.109 Helicopter Unit (Knights) is a squadron of the Indian Air Force. Raised on August 26, 1961 equipped with Mi 4s, it later converted to Mi 8s in 1974, which were further replaced by Mi-17s in 2016. Based at Sulur Air Force Station, it currently forms a part of the Southern Air Command.

No. 125 Helicopter Squadron (Gladiators) is a fighter squadron and is equipped with Apache AH-64E and based at Pathankot Air Force Station.

No. 220 Squadron is a fighter squadron and is equipped with Su-30 MKIs and based at Halwara Air Force Station.

No. 221 Squadron (Valiants) is an Indian Air Force fighter squadron and is equipped with Su-30MKI and based at Halwara Air Force Station.

No. 222 Squadron (Tigersharks) is a CAS unit based out of Thanjavur. It is the first Sukhoi Su-30 MKI squadron based in southern India and is the also the first squadron equipped with air launched BrahMos cruise missile.

No. 223 Squadron (Tridents) is a fighter squadron and is equipped with MiG-29UPG and based at Adampur AFS.
