The Indonesian Navy is the naval branch of the Indonesian National Armed Forces. It was founded on 10 September 1945 and has a role to patrol Indonesia's lengthy coastline, to enforce and patrol the territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Indonesia, to protect Indonesia's maritime strategic interests, to protect the islands surrounding Indonesia, and to defend against seaborne threats.

The Claud Jones-class destroyer escorts were four destroyer escorts built for the United States Navy in the late 1950s. These ships were a diesel-powered version of the earlier Dealey class and were designed with the aim of producing a cheaper ship suitable for rapid production in wartime. These ships also had reduced armament and speed compared to their predecessors. They were not seen as effective anti-submarine warfare vessels by the United States Navy and were sold after only 15 years service to the Indonesian Navy.

The Commandant of the Marine Corps is the highest position of Indonesian Marine Corps. Marine Corps is currently an integral part of the Navy (TNI-AL) and Commandant of the Marine Corps report to Chief of Staff of the Navy. Commandant of Marine Corps also held the highest rank in the Marine Corps, which is Major General. However, it is possible to be promoted into higher rank if appointed into a position in Navy or National Armed Forces HQ that requires 3-star rank or higher.

The Dewantara class, Indonesian designation KDA-364 is a class of corvette ship that was mostly used as training ship by Indonesian Navy and commissioned between 1981-2019. The ship's name was based on Ki Hajar Dewantara, a leading Indonesian independence movement activist, writer, columnist, politician, and pioneer of education for native Indonesians in Dutch colonial times. He founded the Taman Siswa school, an institution that provided education for indigenous commoners, which otherwise was limited to the Javanese aristocracy and the Dutch colonials. He was honored as a National Hero of Indonesia by Indonesia's first president, Sukarno, on November 28, 1959.

The Indonesian Marine Corps, officially the Marine Corps of the Indonesian Navy previously known as the Commando Corps of the Indonesian Navy, is currently an integral part of the Indonesian Navy and is sized at the military corps level unit as the naval infantry and main amphibious warfare force of Indonesia. The Marine Corps is commanded by a two-star marine general. As of August 2018, it has three divisions, each led by a one-star marine general:Pasukan Marinir I / PASMAR I based in Sidoarjo. Pasukan Marinir II / PASMAR II based in Jakarta. Pasukan Marinir III / PASMAR III based in Sorong.

The Frogmen Command Center is the premier frogman and underwater demolition unit of the Indonesian Navy. The unit's motto is in Sanskrit: "Tan Hana Wighna Tan Sirna". The unit's main duties are underwater demolition, destroying main underwater installations, reconnaissance, prisoner snatches, preparing beaches for larger naval amphibious operations, and counter-terrorism. During peacetime, the unit also deploys a team to serve as security personnel for VIPs and VVIPs. The personnel of Kopaska are recruited from Indonesian Navy seamen. Like other Indonesian special forces, Kopaska is trained to be able to conduct operations in the sea, including underwater, on land and airborne.

Taifib is an elite recon unit within the Indonesian Marine Corps which is tasked for conducting amphibious reconnaissance and special reconnaissance. It is operationally similar to the Combat Reconnaissance Platoon from the Army's Kostrad corps. Taifib was previously known as "Kipam" which literally means in English: the Para-Amphibious reconnaissance Commandos, it was formed in 1961.
