
The third SPAR European Team Championships took place on 18 and 19 June 2011. The Competition was divided between four divisions, with results determining promotion and relegation between them. The Super League event was held in Stockholm, at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium. The Super League was won by the Russian team ahead of Germany and Ukraine.

The 2011 IIHF World Women's U18 Championship was the fourth junior female world ice hockey championships. It was held from January 1 through January 8, 2011, in Stockholm, Sweden. The championship was the Under-18 junior ice hockey edition of the women worlds, organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

The 2012 IIHF World Championship was the 76th IIHF World Championship, an annual international ice hockey tournament. It took place between 4–20 May 2012 in Finland and Sweden. This tournament determined the countries’ seeding for the men's Olympic Ice Hockey tournament in Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics, and for all countries participating in the qualification program leading up to the Olympics.

The 2013 IIHF World Championship was the 77th event hosted by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), held in Stockholm, Sweden, and Helsinki, Finland, between 3–19 May 2013. TV4 and MTV3 served as host broadcasters of the event.

The 2016 European Women's Handball Championship was held in Sweden from 4 to 18 December 2016. It was the second time that Sweden hosts the tournament, after it also hosted the 2006 European Women's Handball Championship.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2016 was the 61st edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Stockholm, Sweden, following Måns Zelmerlöw's win at the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria with the song "Heroes". It was the sixth time Sweden had hosted the contest, having previously done so in 1975, 1985, 1992, 2000 and 2013. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT), the contest was held at the Ericsson Globe and consisted of two semi-finals on 10 and 12 May, and the final on 14 May 2016. The three live shows were hosted by Måns Zelmerlöw and Petra Mede.
The 48th Guldbagge Awards ceremony, presented by the Swedish Film Institute, honored the best Swedish films of 2012 and took place January 21, 2013, at Cirkus in Stockholm. During the ceremony, the jury presented Guldbagge Awards in 19 categories. The ceremony was televised in the Sweden by SVT, with actress and comedian Babben Larsson hosting the show.

Melodifestivalen 2010 was a Swedish song contest held between February and March 2010. It was the selection for the 50th song to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest, and was the 49th edition of Melodifestivalen. Five semi-finals were held in the Swedish cities of Örnsköldsvik, Sandviken, Gothenburg and Malmö, with Örebro hosting the final Andra Chansen round.

The 2014 Oddset Hockey Games is played between 1–4 May 2014. The Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden and Russia play a round-robin for a total of three games per team and six games in total. Five of the matches are played in the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden, and one match in the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland. Finland won the tournament for the fifth time. The tournament is a part of the 2013–14 Euro Hockey Tour.

The 2017 Stockholm truck attack was an Islamist terrorist attack which took place on 7 April of that year in central Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. A hijacked truck was deliberately driven into crowds along Drottninggatan before being crashed into an Åhléns department store. Five people were killed, including an eleven-year-old girl, and 14 others were seriously injured.

On 11 December 2010, two bombs exploded in central Stockholm, killing the bomber. Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt and the Swedish Security Service (SÄPO) described the bombings as acts of terrorism.

On 19 May 2013, violent disturbances broke out in Husby, a suburb dominated by immigrants and second-generation immigrant residents, including a substantial number from Somalia, Eritrea, Afghanistan and Iraq, in northern Stockholm, Sweden. The riots were reportedly in response to the shooting to death by police of an elderly man, reportedly a Portuguese expatriate, armed with a puukko knife, after entering his apartment and then allegedly trying to cover up the man's death.

UFC Fight Night: Gustafsson vs. Smith was a mixed martial arts event produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship that was held on June 1, 2019 at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden.

UFC on Fox: Gustafsson vs. Johnson was a mixed martial arts event held on January 24, 2015, at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.

UFC on Fuel TV: Gustafsson vs. Silva was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on April 14, 2012 at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.

UFC on Fuel TV: Mousasi vs. Latifi was a mixed martial arts event held on April 6, 2013, at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. The event was broadcast live on Fuel TV.

The wedding of Prince Carl Philip, Duke of Värmland, and Sofia Hellqvist took place on 13 June 2015 at Slottskyrkan, Stockholm.

The wedding of Princess Madeleine, Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland, and the British-born American financier Christopher O'Neill took place in Stockholm on 8 June 2013.

The wedding of Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden, and Daniel Westling took place on 19 June 2010 in Stockholm Cathedral. It has been described as "Europe's biggest royal wedding since the Prince of Wales married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981." Westling thereby acquired Victoria's ducal title, becoming a Swedish prince and Duke of Västergötland. In time for the wedding, a joint monogram of their initials was created.
