
The Festival of German-Language Literature is a literary event which takes place annually in Klagenfurt, Austria. During this major literary festival which lasts for several days a number of awards are given, the major one being the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize, first awarded in 1977 and one of the most important awards for literature in the German language.
Jürg Amann was a Swiss author and dramatist. He has written radio plays, a biography of Robert Walser, and other works.

Franzobel is the pseudonym of the Austrian writer (Franz) Stefan Griebl. He was born on 1 March 1967 in Vöcklabruck. In 1997 he won the Wolfgang Weyrauch Prize and in 1998, the Kassel Literary Prize, amongst numerous other literary awards. In 2017 he won the prestigious Nicolas Born Prize and was long-listed for the German Book Prize for his novel, Das Floß der Medusa. He now lives in Vienna.

Urs Jaeggi is a Swiss sociologist, painter, and author. From 1964 to 1993, he was a Professor of Sociology and Social Philosophy in Bern, Bochum, New York, and Berlin. He published numerous novels, short stories, essays as well as scientific books. He won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in 1981. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions since 1985. Presently he lives in Berlin and Mexico City.

Ulrich Plenzdorf was a German author and dramatist.

Uwe Tellkamp is a German writer and physician. He practised medicine until 2004. Before the fall of communism, he was enlisted in the National People's Army as a tank commander and imprisoned when he refused to break up a demonstration in October 1989. Until the fall of the German Democratic Republic shortly after, he was prohibited from studying medicine.
