Alfredo Darrington Bowman, better known as Dr. Sebi, was a Honduran self-proclaimed herbalist healer, who also practiced in the United States for a period in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Bowman claimed to cure all disease with herbs and a plant-based alkaline diet based on various pseudoscientific claims, and denied that HIV caused AIDS. He set up a treatment center in Honduras, then moved his practice to New York City and Los Angeles. Numerous entertainment and acting celebrities were among his clients, including Michael Jackson, Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes, and John Travolta.

It also found that she provided dangerous, unsupported health advice to vulnerable groups. This included advising parents to feed their infants raw goat milk or almond milk blended with dates or banana instead of formula, and recommending that cancer patients forgo chemotherapy in favour of baking soda wraps and dietary changes.

Tinkham and Young both claimed that he had cured her, but she died of her disease shortly afterwards. He was arrested in January 2014 and convicted in 2016 on two out of three charges of theft and practicing medicine without a license. He spent several months in jail in 2017.
