The 1921 Constitution of the Azerbaijan Socialist Soviet Republic was adopted by the Central Executive Committee of the Azerbaijan SSR at the 1st All-Azerbaijani Congress of Soviets on May 19, 1921. The constitution abolished the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

The 1927 Constitution of the Azerbaijan Socialist Soviet Republic was adopted by the Central Executive Committee of the Azerbaijan SSR at the 5th All-Azerbaijani Congress of Soviets on March 26, 1927.

Agency for Sustainable and Operational Social Security (Azerbaijani: Dayanıqlı və Operativ Sosial Təminat Agentliyi ) is a governmental agency which was created by order of President in order to improve governance in employment, social protection, labor. ASAN service is a state agency for public services to citizens of Azerbaijan. The agency's goal is to make services more easily accessible to citizens using modern technologies. The acronym “ASAN” stands for “Azerbaijan Service and Assessment Network”. The word “asan” means “easy” in Azerbaijani.

The Azerbaijani passport is issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan to the citizens of Azerbaijan for international travel. Ordinary passports are valid for 10 years from the date of issue and contain 34 visa pages. Passport content is printed both in Azerbaijani and in English.

The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan or MN is an Azerbaijani government agency that is associated with the Azerbaijani military. The ministry is responsible for keeping Azerbaijan defended against external threats, preserving its territorial integrity, waging war on behalf of Azerbaijan, and the surveillance of the Azerbaijani sector of Caspian Sea sea and airspace. The Minister of Defense is appointed and removed from the post by the Commander-in-chief of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, the President of Azerbaijan.

The National Assembly, also transliterated as Milli Majlis, is the legislative branch of government in Azerbaijan. The unicameral National Assembly has 125 deputies: previously 100 members were elected for five-year terms in single-seat constituencies and 25 were members elected by proportional representation; as of the latest election, however, all 125 deputies are returned from single-member constituencies.

According to the amendments to the Azerbaijani Constitution of 1995 and 2016, the Speaker is the forth in line of succession to presidency after the Vice President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, in that sequence.

The Special State Protection Service of Azerbaijan is a militarized institution that is under the direct command of the President of Azerbaijan.

The Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR was the supreme soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR. In 1994, the Supreme Soviet was renamed to the National Assembly and was officially disbanded in 1995 when a semi-presidential system was implemented.

The vice-president of Azerbaijan is the second-highest constitutional office in Azerbaijan, after the president. The first and current Vice-President is First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
