Battle royale games involve dozens to hundreds of players, who start with minimal equipment and then must eliminate all other opponents while avoiding being trapped outside of a shrinking "safe area", with the winner being the last player or team alive. The name for the genre is taken from the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale, itself based on the novel of the same name, which presents a similar theme of a last-man-standing competition in a shrinking play zone.

Btooom! is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Junya Inoue. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is an online multiplayer battle royale game developed and published by PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of South Korean video game company Bluehole. The game is based on previous mods that were created by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene for other games, inspired by the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale, and expanded into a standalone game under Greene's creative direction. In the game, up to one hundred players parachute onto an island and scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill others while avoiding getting killed themselves. The available safe area of the game's map decreases in size over time, directing surviving players into tighter areas to force encounters. The last player or team standing wins the round.

Realm Royale is a free-to-play third-person shooter battle royale game developed by Heroic Leap Games. The game features multiple character classes each with unique abilities. It is a spin-off of the hero shooter Paladins, where it originated as a game mode known as Paladins: Battlegrounds. The game was released for Microsoft Windows via Steam's early access program in June 2018, with versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One released two months later. A few months after releasing on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Realm Royale entered open beta on both consoles. On May 24, 2019, the game entered closed beta on Nintendo Switch and went into open beta on June 20, 2019.

Super Animal Royale is an upcoming indie battle royale video game developed by Pixile Studios and published by Modus Games for Microsoft Windows and macOS. The game features 64-player matches starring anthropomorphic animals who use a variety of weapons and firearms from a 2D overhead perspective and was built using the Unity game engine. An early version was launched on Steam Early Access on December 12, 2018, with a free-to-play demo version released the following month in January 2019.

Surviv.io is a browser based multiplayer online 2D battle royale game created by Justin Kim and Nick Clark. It was released in October 2017 for browser, and in October and November 2018 respectively for iOS and Android devices. Similar to other titles in the battle royale genre, players battle against other players on a large map from a top-down perspective, scavenging for supplies and weapons. The game also supports two or four player team modes, and can be played on mobile browsers as well.

Survival Game is an upcoming, under-production, debut, Android exclusive battle royale video game title being independently developed and distributed by Xiaomi, currently under beta-testing. It is a large-scale, 3D, sci-fi, mobile shooter and is said to feature distinctive gameplay content.

Tetris 99 is a free online version of the Tile-matching video game Tetris, developed by Arika, and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch in February 2019. Incorporating elements of the battle royale genre, Tetris 99 has up to 99 players competing simultaneously to complete rows with falling tetrominoes, which in turn send attacks in the form of "garbage rows" to other players with the goal of knocking them out of the game.

Totally Accurate Battlegrounds (TABG) is a multiplayer battle royale video game developed by Swedish studio Landfall Games. Released on June 5, 2018, as a spin-off of its predecessor Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, the game is a satire of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, with a heavy emphasis on exaggerated player and weapon physics.
