
Japanese Breakfast is an indie rock band headed by Korean-American musician, director, and author Michelle Zauner. The band released its first studio album Psychopomp (2016) on Yellow K Records, followed by Soft Sounds from Another Planet (2017) and Jubilee (2021), both on Dead Oceans. The later album garnered them a Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album, as well as Best New Artist at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.

Lofi Girl, formerly ChilledCow, is a YouTube channel and music label established in 2017. In 2021, the YouTube channel was renamed from ChilledCow to Lofi Girl. It streams lo-fi hip hop music 24/7, accompanied by a Japanese-style animation of a girl studying or relaxing.

John Maus is an American musician, composer, singer, and songwriter known for his baritone singing style and his use of vintage synthesizer sounds and Medieval church modes, a combination that often draws comparisons to 1980s goth-pop. His early lo-fi recordings anticipated and inspired the late 2000s hypnagogic pop movement. On stage, he is characterized for his intense displays of emotion while performing. He is also a former teacher of philosophy at the University of Hawaii, where he later earned his PhD in political science.

Sam Mehran, also known as Sam Meringue, was an American-Australian musician, songwriter, and producer who co-founded the punk band Test Icicles and later formed the solo projects Matrix Metals and Outer Limits Recordings (OLR). His solo work differed substantially from Test Icicles and was often produced in a lo-fi manner. He received little critical notice in his lifetime, a Dazed Digital editor commented, however, "Mehran possessed an incomparable talent that belied his relatively low public profile."

Robert Steven Moore is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter who pioneered lo-fi/DIY music. Often called the "godfather of home recording", he is one of the most recognized artists of the cassette underground, and his influence is particularly felt in the bedroom and hypnagogic pop artists of the post-millennium. Since 1968, he has self-released approximately 400 albums, while about three dozen "official" albums have been issued on various labels.

Jun Seba , better known by his stage name Nujabes , was a Japanese record producer, audio engineer, DJ, composer and arranger best known for his atmospheric instrumental mixes sampling from hip hop, soul, and jazz. He released two studio albums during his lifetime: Metaphorical Music (2003) and Modal Soul (2005), while the album Spiritual State was released posthumously in 2011. Seba was the founder of the independent label Hydeout Productions and released two collection compilations: Hydeout Productions 1st Collection (2003) and 2nd Collection (2007). Additionally, Seba collaborated on the soundtrack for Shinichirō Watanabe's anime series Samurai Champloo in 2004.

Alexander James O'Connor, known professionally as Rex Orange County, is a British singer and songwriter. O’Connor rose to prominence in 2017 following multiple features on Tyler, the Creator’s Grammy-nominated album Flower Boy. NPR Music journalist Zoë Jones has described O’Connor’s music as "a bright blend of hip-hop, jazz, and bedroom pop”.

She is best known as the lead vocalist and songwriter of the indie rock band Japanese Breakfast and was previously in the band Little Big League. As Japanese Breakfast, Zauner has released three studio albums: Psychopomp (2016), followed by Soft Sounds from Another Planet (2017) and Jubilee (2021). Also as Japanese Breakfast, Zauner wrote the soundtrack for the video game Sable. The game and its soundtrack were released in 2021.
