
There are about 6,000 lakes in Lithuania, covering 950 km², or 1.5% of the territory of Lithuania. The lakes are not evenly distributed; most are situated in the Baltic Highlands, which begin near the border with Poland on the southeast and extend northward along the border with Belarus to Latvia.
Alksnaitis is a lake in the Ignalina district, eastern Lithuania. It is located in the Aukštaitija National Park, about 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) northwest of Linkmenys village. The lake connects with Alksnas, Ūkojas and Linkmenas lakes.
Lake Asveja or Dubingiai Lake is the longest lake in Lithuania. It covers 9.78 km² area and reaches a depth of 50.2m which makes it the third deepest lake in Lithuania. It lies partly in Molėtai district, Švenčionys district and Vilnius district. The alternative name comes from the historical Dubingiai Castle, constructed on the former island, and the small town of Dubingiai situated on the lake. The town is a popular tourist destination. Žeimena River flows south of the lake and people rent boats or kayaks to go down the river to the Neris River.

Baltieji Lakajai is a major lake of eastern Lithuania, located about 12 miles east of Moletai, in Labanoras Regional Park of Utena County. It is part of the Neris River basin, an elongated lake in a west–east direction. The lake is of glacial original as are all 9,000 and odd natural lakes covering 1.5% of the land area of Lithuania.
Balžis is a lake in the north-eastern part of Vilnius City Municipality, Lithuania. It is surrounded by Nemenčinė-Lavoriškės pine forests. Its coasts are quite high, dry. Balžis is connected to Lake Juodis and Lake Skarbelis by small rivulets. The lake belongs to the Neris River basin.

Lake Biržulis is a lake in the Telšiai District of western Lithuania. It has a maximum length in the north-south direction of 3.6 km. The lake has two islands, Spiginas and Duonkalnis, which have yielded Mesolithic and Neolithic burials including the Mesolithic grave of the "Duonkalnis shaman".

Dauniškis is a lake located in Dauniškis park, Utena city, Lithuania. It has a length of 0.7 km and maximum width of 0.3 km.
Drūkšiai, also called Drysviaty or Drysvyaty, or Drisvyaty is the largest of the Braslau Lakes located partly in the northeastern part of Lithuania and partly in the Vitebsk Voblast, in Belarus. The lake water was used to cool the reactors of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant.

The Dusia lake is the largest lake in Southern Lithuania, Lazdijai district and is part of the Dovinė River basin. Other nearby lakes are Lake Metelys and Lake Obelija.
The Lake Dysnai is the second largest lake in Lithuania. With average depth of only 6 m (20 ft) it is one of the shallowest lakes in Lithuania. It is located in the Ignalina district municipality, about 3 km (1.9 mi) south from Dūkštas city. Dūkštas Train Station is the closest train station to the Lake Dysnai. It is approximately a 2 hours ride by train from Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.

Elektrėnai Reservoir, located south of the city of Elektrėnai, Lithuania, is the third-biggest artificial lake in Lithuania. It was created in 1961 by damming the Strėva River. It supplies cooling water to the 1,800 MW Elektrėnai Power Plant. A number of villages were drowned by the reservoir; over 140 households were relocated. The reservoir also covered eight other lakes.

Gaładuś is a ribbon lake located in the Suwałki Region, where it is the second largest lake by area. The lake is located in the north-east of Poland and the south of Lithuania. The lake is located in the Gmina Sejny, Podlaskie Voivodeship in Poland, and in the region of Lazdijai in Lithuania. The lake has high and non-forested banks. The lake and its catchment area is found in the drainage basin of the Neman, in the watershed of the Biała Hańcza.
Lake Galvė is a lake in Trakai Lithuania. It has 21 islands, and one of them houses Trakai Island Castle. Trakai Peninsula Castle is located on its southern shore. There are ruins of the little Orthodox church in Bažnytėlė Island. Trakai was the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from 1321-1323 before moving to Vilnius. The lake and most of the other lakes surrounding the castle and city have myths and legends connected to them, of which most contain a tragic love story.
Gavys - lake in eastern Lithuania, Ignalina district, about 2 km southwest of Ignalina. The western part of the lake edge Aukštaitija National Park. Gavys lake length 1.9 cm, width 1.2 km. Depth up to 56 m.

Green Lakes are six lakes located in northeastern part of Vilnius, Lithuania. They are a part of Verkiai Regional Park.

Kaunas Reservoir is the largest Lithuanian artificial lake, created in 1959 by damming the Nemunas River near Kaunas and Rumšiškės. It occupies 63.5 square kilometers, which is about 0.1% of the total territory of Lithuania. The reservoir supports the operations of the Kaunas Hydroelectric Power Plant. Its waters cover the Nemunas valley from the river's confluence with Strėva River to the dam, a distance of about 25 kilometers. The greatest width of the reservoir is 3.3 kilometers and its greatest depth is 22 meters.

Krokų Lanka is the only lake of marine origin in Lithuania and the largest lake in the Šilutė District Municipality. It is located in the Nemunas Delta Regional Park on the Baltic Sea shore near Nemunas Delta and Ventė Cape. It covers a territory of 788 ha. Aukštumala bog, covering 3018 ha and used for peat production since 1882, is located just north of the lake and Mingė village is located on the western bank. In the south a narrow strip of water connects the lake with Atmata, a branch of the Neman River.
Lavysas is a lake in southern Lithuania, Varena district, about 5 miles (8.0 km) south of Perloja and 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Varena, surrounded by the Dainava forest. The lake is 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) long and has a width up to 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi). The maximum depth is 10.2 metres (33 ft). The lake is of glacial origin, thermokarst, and forms an oval shape. The shores are sandy and covered with coniferous forests. The southern coast on the other hand is swampy. The lake collects the water from two streams, the Merkys and its tributary the Lavysa. Located on the west coast is the village of Lavyso. Close to the lake are many campsites and rest houses.
Lake Linkmenas is a lake in Aukštaitija National Park, Ignalina District, Lithuania. It is 2,300 metres long and 600 metres wide. Linkmenas is part of a chain of seven interconnected lakes. The only major settlement on the shore is Ginučiai, which has an old watermill.

Luodis Lake is situated in Zarasai district municipality, Lithuania. Lake contains two large islands. Town of Salakas is situated near the lake.

Lūšna is a lake in Northwest Lithuania, Rokiškis District Municipality, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) south-east of Rokiškis. It is the origin of Nemunėlis River
Lake Metelys is located in southern Lithuania's Alytus County. The lake, covering 1,292 hectares, has a maximum depth of 15 metres. It lies with the boundaries of Meteliai Regional Park. Lake Metelys formed from melted ice lump.

Lake Plateliai is the biggest lake in Samogitia and 9th biggest in Lithuania. It is the central attraction in the Žemaitija National Park. It covers about 12 km² and reaches up to 49 m in depth. It has seven islands, one of them housed a castle and now is called Castle Island. Archeologists found remains of two castles and think it might be the Queen Bona castle. The lake has both diving and yacht clubs. Plateliai town is located on the west bank of the lake.

Plazė (Plocis) is a lake about 8 km to the west of Kretingalė in Klaipėda District Municipality in West Lithuania. A blind has been constructed beside the lake so bird lovers can watch the lake’s water birds up close. It is 3 km by foot or bike from the nearest car park to the lake as cars are banned from the shore.
Lake Rubikiai is a lake in Anykščiai district municipality, Lithuania. It is famous for its 13 islands that cover 1.1 km². Among the settlements located on the shores of the lake, Rubikiai village is the largest. Anykšta rivulet, the namesake of Anykščiai and left tributary of Šventoji River, flows from the lake. In 1960 Lake Rubikiai was declared a landscape reserve and now is part of Anykščiai Regional Park. There are several campsites where tourists are welcome to put up tents or rent kayaks. Every year since 1984 Lake Rubikiai hosts a regatta on the Joninės day.
Šakarvai Lake is in the Ignalina district of eastern Lithuania, Aukštaitija National Park, about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) southwest of Palūšė village. The lake connects with Lake Lūšiai and Lake Žeimenys.

Lake Sartai is located in Rokiškis and Zarasai municipalities, northeastern Lithuania. The lake's 79 km shoreline is the longest in Lithuania. There are six islands in the lake. River Šventoji flows through it.

Širvėna Lake is a lake located in Biržai municipality, northern Lithuania. It is the oldest artificial lake in Lithuania. It was created in 1575 when the dam was built on rivers Agluona and Apaščia. The lake was built to protect the Radvila castle in Biržai. Now the city of Biržai, which was built around the castle, is located on the southern shore of Širvėna lake. The suburb of Astravas is built on the northern and the suburb of Rinkuškiai on the western shore.
Tauragnas is the deepest lake in Lithuania reaching 62.5 metres of depth. The surface area is 5.13 km² and average depth 18.7 m. It is situated in Aukštaitija National Park near Tauragnai in Utena County. This is also a lake with the highest altitude in Lithuania.
Lake Ūkojas is a lake in the Ignalina district, eastern Lithuania. It is located in the Aukštaitija National Park, about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) west of Ignalina. The lake connects with Lake Alksnaitis and Lake Pakasas.

Veisiejis Lake is in the Lazdijai district of southern Lithuania, about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) southwest of Veisiejai city. The lake is narrow, like a river, with sharp, high shores. Veisiejis Lake has 13 islands with a total area of 0.322 square kilometres (0.124 sq mi). The lake connects with Lake Niedus.
Lake Visaginas is located south of the town of Visaginas in eastern Lithuania.

Lake Vištytis is a lake on the border between Lithuania and Russia, near the tripoint with Poland.
Lake Žuvintas is a shallow lake in Alytus district, central Lithuania. Area of Žuvintas Lake is 965 ha. It is the shallowest lake in Lithuania with the greatest depth 3 m and average only 0.6 m. It is a paradise for water birds, but also faces danger of becoming a swamp.
