
The Paracel Islands, also known as Xisha Islands and Hoang Sa Archipelago, are a disputed archipelago in the South China Sea.
The Battle of the Paracel Islands was a military engagement between the naval forces of China and South Vietnam in the Paracel Islands on January 19, 1974. The battle was an attempt by the South Vietnamese navy to expel the Chinese navy from the vicinity.

Bombay Reef is an atoll of the Paracel Islands. In Chinese, the reef is alternatively known as "Pengbojiao", or "Qilianyu" along with six other islands close by.

Dragon Hole, also known as Yongle Blue Hole named after the third Ming emperor, is the deepest known blue hole in the world at 300.89 metres (987.2 ft) deep. It is located about 25 kilometres (16 mi) south of Discovery Reef in the Paracel Islands. Blue holes generate a distinctive blue colour when seen from above. They are characteristically only dozens of metres deep.

Hoàng Sa is an island district of Da Nang in the South Central Coast region of Vietnam. It covers an area of 305 km2 (118 sq mi) of the Paracel Islands, including these main features: Pattle Island, North Reef, Robert Island, Discovery Reef, Passu Keah, Triton Island, Tree Island, North Island, Middle Island, South Island, Woody Island, Lincoln Island, Duncan Island, Bombay Reef, Observation Bank, West Sand, Vuladdore Reef and Pyramid Rock.

Huaguangjiao One is a Chinese merchant ship, built during the Southern Song dynasty (1127–1279), that sank off the coast of the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea. The ship's name translates as "Magnificent China Reef Wreck #1". It was discovered in 1996 and is currently the oldest hull that China has discovered in the open seas.

Money Island 16°26′52″N 111°30′30″E is the southwesternmost island in the Crescent Group of the Paracel Islands archipelago. It rises to a height of 6 metres and is covered with brush. At the eastern side of the island lies an extensive reef, which contains a central lagoon, but the reef is mostly submerged at high tide. Inside the lagoon, the open areas range in depth from 7 to 20 metres. The sand cay at the southeastern extremity of reef is the reef's highest point. The channel between Money Island's reef and Antelope Reef is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) wide. The reef continues around to the north side of the island. There is a small reef on the south side with a man-made channel cut through it to the beach.

Rocky Island is one of the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea. It is under the administration of the People's Republic of China and guarded by the PLA Navy. The island is also claimed by Taiwan and Vietnam.

Triton Island is the westernmost and southernmost of the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea. It is located on the southwest corner of Triton Reef and has an area of 7 hectares above sea-level. The reef including the island measures about 120 hectares in area. The island is administered by the People's Republic of China, and is also claimed by the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Vietnam.

West Sand 16°58′39″N 112°12′43″E is a sand cay located in the northwest of the Amphitrite Group of the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea. It is approximately 4 nautical miles (7.4 km) west of Tree Island.

Woody Island, also called Yongxing Island in People's Republic of China (PRC) and Phu Lam Island in Vietnam, is the largest of the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea (SCS), with an area of 2.1 square kilometres (0.81 sq mi). It has a population of more than 1,000 people, with roads, banks and a "small" air strip. The Paracel Islands are a group of islands, reefs, banks and atolls in the northwestern part of the South China Sea. Woody Island is part of the Amphitrite Group in the eastern Paracels and is approximately equidistant from Hainan and the Vietnam coast.

Xisha District is the municipal district of Sansha, Hainan. It administers the islands and reefs of the disputed Paracel Islands and its sea areas, and is responsible for the islands and reefs and sea areas of the Zhongsha Islands. The People's Government of Xisha District is stationed in Yongxing Island.

Yagong Island is an island in the Crescent Group of the Paracel Islands, in the South China Sea. It is also known as "He Duck",, due to its shape. It is located a few hundred metres southwest of Observation Bank in the northeast of the Crescent Group.

Yongxing Island Airport, also known as Woody Island Airport, is a civilian-military dual-use airport located on Yongxing (Woody) Island, the largest of the disputed Paracel Islands in the South China Sea. Yongxing/Woody Island is occupied and administered by China (PRC) as the seat of Sansha city of Hainan Province. The airport was expanded in 1990 to increase the combat range of Chinese warplanes. Further construction and reclamation of land commenced in 2012 to lengthen the airstrip. This work was completed in October 2014.
