WThe 2015 African Junior Athletics Championships was the twelfth edition of the biennial, continental athletics tournament for African athletes aged 19 years or younger. It was held at the Addis Ababa Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 5–8 March. It was the first time that Ethiopia hosted the event and followed on from the 2008 African Championships in Athletics, which was hosted at the same venue.
WThe 2015 African Youth Athletics Championships was the second edition of the biennial athletics competition for African athletes aged fifteen to seventeen, It was held in Reduit, Mauritius from 23–26 April. Mauritius had hosted the 2013 African Junior Athletics Championships two years earlier. A total of 38 events, 18 by boys and 20 by girls, were contested at the competition.
WThe 21st Asian Athletics Championships was held at the Wuhan Sports Center in Wuhan, China from 3–7 June 2015.
WThe 2015 Asian Youth Athletics Championships was the first edition of the biennial, continental athletics competition for Asian athletes aged fifteen to seventeen. It was held in Doha, Qatar from 8–11 May. A total of forty events were contested, with the events divided evenly between the sexes. The event programme mirrored that of the previous IAAF World Youth Championships in Athletics, with the exception of a boy's decathlon, rather than the octathlon.
WThe 2014–15 Australian Athletics Championships was the 93rd edition of the national championship in outdoor track and field for Australia. It was held from 26–29 March 2015 at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre in Brisbane. It served as the selection meeting for Australia at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics. Distance events were held separately, with the 10,000 metres taking place at the Zatopek 10K on 11 December 2014 at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne, the men's 5000 metres being held at the same location on 21 March 2015, and the women's 5000 m taking place at Sydney Olympic Park on 14 March 2015.
WThe 2015 Balkan Athletics Championships was the 74th edition of the annual track and field competition for athletes from the Balkans, organised by Balkan Athletics. It was held at Stadionul Nicolae Dobrin in Pitești, Romania on 1 and 2 August. The host nation Romania won the most medals at the competition, with 28, and the Turkey won the most gold medals, at 10. The competition was originally scheduled to take place in Serres, Greece, but the venue was changed due to a lack of funding, in the context of the Greek government-debt crisis.
WThe 2015 Balkan Athletics Indoor Championships was the 20th edition of the annual indoor track and field competition for athletes from the Balkans, organised by Balkan Athletics. It was held on 21 February at the Ataköy Athletics Arena in Istanbul, Turkey.
WThe 2015 British Indoor Athletics Championships was an indoor track and field competition held from 14–15 February 2015 at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield, England. A full range of indoor events were held. It served as a qualifier for the British team at the 2017 European Athletics Indoor Championships.

It was organised by UK Athletics. A full range of outdoor events were held. The competition served as the selection event for the 2015 World Championships in Athletics.

WThe 2015 European Cross Country Championships was the 22nd edition of the cross country running competition for European athletes. It was hosted in Hyères, France.
WThe 2015 European 10,000m Cup, was the 19th edition of the European 10,000m Cup took place on 6 June in Cagliari, Italia.
WThe 2015 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 14 and 15 March at the Centro Nacional de Lançamentos and Estádio Municipal in Leiria, Portugal. It was the fifteenth edition of the athletics competition for throwing events and was jointly organised by the European Athletic Association and the Federação Portuguesa de Atletismo. The competition featured men's and women's contests in shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and hammer throw. In addition to the senior competitions, there were also under-23 events for younger athletes. Leiria repeated as host, becoming the first place to do so in tournament history.

WThe 2015 French Indoor Athletics Championships was the 44th edition of the national championship in indoor track and field for France, organised by the French Athletics Federation. It was held on 21–22 February at the Jean-Pellez Stadium in Aubière. A total of 28 events were contested over the two-day competition. An indoor 400 metres hurdles was also held as a non-championship demonstration event.

WThe 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships were a Paralympic track and field meet organized by the World Para Athletics subcommittee of the International Paralympic Committee. The event was the 7th edition of what is now known as the World Para Athletics Championships, held from 21 to 31 October 2015 at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar. It featured 119 men's events and 91 women's events. The Marathon events which are traditionally part of the world championships were separated from the competition and instead held on 26 April as part of the London Marathon.
WThe 2015 North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships was a regional track and field competition held at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San José, Costa Rica from August 7-9, 2015. It was the second edition of a senior track and field championship for the NACAC region, held eight years after the first.

WThe 2015 Pan American Junior Championships was the eighteenth edition of the biennial track and field competition for under-20 athletes from the Americas, organised by the Association of Panamerican Athletics. It was held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, at the Foote Field from 31 July to 2 August.

WThe 2015 South American Championships in Athletics was the 49th edition of the biennial athletics competition between South American nations. The event was held in the Peruvian capital of Lima from 12 to 14 June at the Videna Stadium. It was the eighth time Lima hosted the event, having last done so for the 2009 edition. A total of 44 events were held, evenly divided between the sexes, continuing with the event programme established in 2001.
WThe 41st South American Junior Championships in Athletics were held in Cuenca, Ecuador, between May 30–31, 2015.
WThe 2015 IAAF World Championships, the fifteenth edition of the IAAF World Championships, were held from 22 to 30 August at the National Stadium in Beijing, China. Forty-three nations won medals, 144 of which were awarded. Kenya topped the medal table for the first time, with 7 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals. The United States won 18 medals, six gold, six silver and six bronze, which was the highest tally. Host nation China, finished 11th on the medals table, while Russia finished ninth.
WThe 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships was the 41st edition of the global championships in cross country running, organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations. It was held in Guiyang, China on 28 March. It was the first time that the event was held in China, and the third occasion it took place in Asia. Senior and junior races were held for men and women, with the four races having both a team and individual element.
WThe 2015 IAAF World Relays was the second edition of the biennial, global track and field relay competition between nations. As in the previous year, it was held in May in Nassau, Bahamas. Apart from contesting for the Golden Baton for the best team overall, the competition also served as a qualifying stage for the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 4 × 100 and 4 × 400 metres relay. One major change compared to the inaugural edition was the replacement of the 4 × 1500 metres relay with the distance medley relay.
WThe 2015 World Youth Championships in Athletics was the ninth edition of the biennial international athletics competition for youth (under-18) athletes. The five-day competition took place between 15 and 19 July at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero stadium in Cali, Colombia. Eligible athletes were aged 16 or 17 on 31 December 2015.
