The 2009 Race of Champions was the 22nd running of the event, and took place on November 3–4, 2009 at the Beijing National Stadium in Beijing, China. It was the first time that the event took place outside of Europe and Africa. It was also the first international sports event to be held in the "Bird's Nest" stadium since the 2008 Summer Olympics.

The 2009 Supercoppa Italiana was a match played by the 2008–09 Serie A winners Internazionale and 2008–09 Coppa Italia winners Lazio. It took place on 8 August 2009 at the Beijing National Stadium in Beijing, China. Lazio won the match 2–1 to earn their third Supercoppa title. This edition was the first time the Supercoppa Italiana was held in China, with China becoming the fourth country to host the competition.

The 2009 Winter Universiade, the XXIV Winter Universiade took place in Harbin, China. Student athletes from 44 countries took part in the games.

China competes at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics from 15–23 August in Berlin.

The 2009 Omega Mission Hills World Cup took place from 26 November to 29 November at Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen, China. It was the 55th World Cup. 28 countries competed as two-man teams. The team purse was $5,500,000 with $1,700,000 going to the winner. The event was won by Italy with a score of 259 (−29).
